Anyone know the type of connection between Crystal Reports and Open Office?
I'm trying to connect Crystal Reports to Open Office database, anyone know the connection type?
The first thing to determine is what kind of database is used within the Open Office suite. Http: / / www.openoffice.org / product / base.html According to the notes "technical" in the link above, "Base includes a full version of the engine HSQL database, storing data in XML files. You may also access dBASE files natively for simple database work. "There is more information about Base here: http://dba.openoffice.org/ And there's more information about HSQLDB here: From http://www.hsqldb.org/ HSQL is a Java database, you must use the type of JDBC data source. I never connected to a JDBC data source. Here is what I found on the Crystal Reports help re: JDBC JDBC … (JNDI) Connection dialog box screen Note: You can configure some data link in this screen CRConfig.xml file. For more information, see CRConfig.xml reference label. Select JDBC Connection to use a URL and name of the class to connect to a database Java Connectivity (JDBC) data source. For more information about JDBC, connection URLs, and class names, see Java and / or sources of data documentation, or search the Sun Microsystems website JDBC connection URL Enter a URL to specify a data source for the driver database appropriate (Class) can establish a connection, you identify the class in the field below. ClassName Enter database class name to use as the driver database in this regard. You must know the name of the class, which is received by your client software database. JNDI Connection Select this option to use a data source (a combination of a connection URL and a class name) that has already been specified and saved through the Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI). JNDI Provider URL Enter the JNDI connection URL of the database driver. This information is provided by the driver vendor database. JNDI Username Enter the appropriate user name to connect to your JNDI server. The JDBC driver uses this information to connect to the database. JNDI Password Enter the appropriate password to connect to your JNDI server. Context initial Type a directory path that indicates how part of the JNDI directory service must initiate a recursive search for predefined connections (sources of data, or the URL and name of class combinations). Note: All information listed under the directory location of the initial context returned. Therefore, it is useful to be as specific as possible when entering in the initial context information. Once you have entered the path of the directory and if you have clicked the Next button, all data sources you can choose are listed by name in the Name list data source. Select the data source you want to use and click Next to go to display connection information. Connection Information screen using the fields that you see on this screen to specify the connection information (database name and login information meeting) to the data source. I found another site that describes how to set up a JDBC connection to a database. Check this out: While http://www.elasticpath.com/ecommerce/docs/4-1/developer-guide/Chapter_17_Crystal_Reports.htm is written to teach you how to connect to a JDBC data source for a product called Elastic Path, I think it will give you enough information so that you can find ways to connect to HSQLDB.
