What is essential lighting for a portrait studio?
I am beginning a study and only a small light with a light box for begin. I have my scenarios in mind, but I'm sure the size it should receive. What should I need lighting, light meters, umbrellas, etc.
If your budget allows, a 3-light setup would be ideal for most situations. – 1 W Main Light / Light Box – 1 fill light w / – 1 lightbox more light to act as a backlight or hairlight. If You Can not buy a fill light, a reflector may be a decent alternative. The backlight is needed to get rid of the shadow the topic at the bottom. If you use a narrow DOF, you can probably live without it. Assuming that the lights are optically active, you just need a flash cable (so generally comes bundled with the light) that goes from the camera to the main light. Other things you may need: – means light – a holder for your backdrop – light meter incident (I use Sekonic) – a very sturdy tripod, perhaps with lockable castors (wheels) – I prefer an adjustable bench light boxes on the umbrella, so I do not use umbrellas, however, could be wrong about this, but umbrella could have wider coverage so it depends on your application. If you are doing mostly waist up or facial portraits, the Softboxes should be sufficient. If you are doing full-body portraits, you will need Softboxes large or umbrella. Now if you have a much cash, you can get Pocketwizard settings to make everything wireless. You can even trigger your flash meter with some configurations. (If you are always doing the work of internal study, it will have to consider Pocketwizards.) Alienbees Check out some good teams, or attempt to rent a kit of your local photo store. The lights alienbees have also included models of the optical triggers.
