Cameras – Muslin backdrop problems!?
I bought a Photo Studio Kit, which includes light, medium scenario, and a curtain black muslin background. Everything is fine, however, the background "black muslin" is like a sheet, and seems out of black type in the photos. Is this how it's supposed to look? I thought it was jet black in the camera. I have daylight fluorescent bulbs. No matter what the balance white on, still looks like a cheap sheet. Furthermore, the positioning of the subject (person) so far from the background that may help, but just barely. Also lighting've tested in different positions. Any suggestions?
perkier is saying is that the lights are the subject of lighting and black background as well. Often, the lighting is high and pointing lower. So if it were a torch, would start at the top of matter and light that hit the ground behind the subject, not hitting the muslin (this also mimics the appearance of the sun on the subject – is that it is natural looking). If the lamps do not have a "switch" in them – Something like an umbrella, caps, etc, the light is probably the spread of 180 degrees. You need to put something between the light and the background to keep the light off. If you are pulling in a basement, try hanging a sheet or cardboard. You can take a box of cereal and put it around the light to give you some orientation. Give it some thought, many ways to do this.
