Has anyone gotten Adobe Illustrator CS4 to work on an linux?
and i mean work, not gotten it installed but then failed to work. I am thinking of switching to a linux but I NEED illustrator working before I can. I know WINE runs many programs but I saw that it isn’t currently working with Illustrator somewhere.
WINE doesn’t currently support CS4 as far as I know. I’m not sure if cross-over office would support it or not (It’s the non-free branch of WINE.) You might check the compatibility there. ( I think You Can demo crossover for a few weeks for free.)
You other option, of course, if you have a copy of XP is to install VirtualBox, create a virtual machine and install XP to the virtual machine to run Illustrator on. (You can do it with vista also, but it will take a lot more system resources than XP, and I at least the 2 “lowest levels” of vista, Basic, and I *think* premium are not licensed to run in a virtual machine… I don’t know if microsoft PREVENTS them from doing so, but I’m sure it’s not LEGAL to do it.
